How can I improve my heart rate data?

If you wear an Apple Watch but record with Slopes on iPhone, your Watch will stay in battery-saving mode and only gather a heart rate sample once every minute or two, leading to big gaps in the data. To get the full picture, you'll need to record with Slopes on your Apple Watch. Doing so will start a workout session on Watch, allowing the sensor to take readings every few seconds instead!

To start a workout on Apple Watch and to be able to save data to Health, Slopes will need Workout and Heart Rate permissions.

The Watch app will ask you if you want to allow permissions when you first record and you'll just need to follow the prompts. You can also enable them manually, here's how:

  • Open the Apple Health app on your iPhone, and tap your profile photo in the top right hand corner
  • Tap on Apps
  • Tap on Slopes - to edit permissions for Apple Watch you'll need to tap on the circle Slopes icon

  • Then, allow read and write permissions for Workouts and Heart Rate
  • If you'd also like to track calories, allow read and write permissions for Active Energy
