GPS Unavailable

Slopes uses GPS to track your skiing and snowboarding activities — recording your runs, lifts, speed, altitude, and more. To do this, your device needs a GPS chip built into its hardware.

Some Android devices — particularly tablets like the Amazon Fire series, certain Xiaomi Redmi Pads, and some budget phones — don't include GPS hardware. Without a GPS chip, Slopes can't determine your location and won't be able to record your activity.

If you're seeing a "GPS is unavailable" message during recording, it most likely means your device doesn't have the GPS hardware Slopes needs to track your day on the mountain.

What You Can Do

If your device doesn't have GPS hardware, unfortunately there isn't a software fix for this. Here are your options:

  • Use a different device — Most modern smartphones include GPS and will work great with Slopes.
  • Check your device settings — If your device does have GPS but it's disabled, head to Settings > Location and make sure location services are turned on.
  • External GPS receivers — Some Bluetooth GPS accessories can provide location data to Android devices, though compatibility with Slopes is not guaranteed.
